About The Blue Lagoon and Reykjanes: the back story

The Reykjanes peninsula, between Keflavík Airport and the capital, is a young landscape of lava fields, geothermal areas and coast, recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2015. The Blue Lagoon lies in its lava near Grindavík, with The Retreat, the Silica Hotel and Moss, One MICHELIN Star in 2026. Since 2023 the Sundhnúkur eruptions have affected Grindavík: conditions change, so check the official sources on the day. Before you go, check umferdin.is for the roads, vedur.is for the weather and safetravel.is for alerts.

The Blue Lagoon

Open every day; day visits from ISK 11,990; the Retreat Spa, Lava Restaurant and Moss.

The geopark

Reykjanes UNESCO Global Geopark, since 2015: lava, geothermal fields and coast (reykjanesgeopark.is, visitreykjanes.is).

The Blue Lagoon is on the way to or from Keflavík: book it for your arrival or departure day.

Our advice: always check safetravel.is and vedur.is before you drive out on the peninsula.
