About Miðborg: the back story

Miðborg, the old centre, is the Reykjavík of the postcards: Laugavegur, the main shopping street, Skólavörðustígur climbing to Hallgrímskirkja, the square of Austurvöllur with Hotel Borg, and the old quarter of Kvosin by the Tjörnin pond. Most of the city’s restaurants, bars and small hotels are within a few minutes’ walk of each other.

Sights

Hallgrímskirkja, the National Gallery, Hafnarhús, Tjörnin and City Hall.

Eating

DILL and ÓX (One MICHELIN Star, 2026); Hosiló, Sümac, OTO and Lóla in the MICHELIN Guide; Grillmarkaðurinn, Messinn and Bæjarins Beztu.

Walk it: the centre is small enough to cross in twenty minutes.

Staying

Hotel Borg, Hotel Holt, 101 Hotel, Apótek, Kvosin, Sand Hotel and Ion City.

Our advice: come up Skólavörðustígur at dusk, when Hallgrímskirkja is lit.
