About Eating in Reykjavík: the back story

In the 2026 MICHELIN Guide Nordic Countries, Iceland has three restaurants with One MICHELIN Star: DILL and ÓX, a few doors apart on Laugavegur, and Moss at the Blue Lagoon. Six more Reykjavík tables are in the selection: TIDES at The Reykjavik EDITION, Hosiló, Sümac, OTO, Lóla and Matur og Drykkur, which reworks the old Icelandic kitchen. Around them are the grill and fish houses of the centre, and Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur, which has served its lamb hot dogs since 1937.

The starred tables

DILL, at Laugavegur 59, and ÓX, at Laugavegur 55, each hold One MICHELIN Star in the 2026 guide; so does Moss, at the Blue Lagoon on the Reykjanes peninsula.

In the MICHELIN Guide

TIDES at The Reykjavik EDITION; Hosiló and OTO on Hverfisgata; Sümac on Laugavegur; Lóla on Tryggvagata; and Matur og Drykkur by the Old Harbour, with Icelandic food traditions given a modern twist.

Book the starred tables well ahead, and remember that wine and spirits are sold in shops only at Vínbúðin.

Classic Reykjavík

Grillmarkaðurinn cooks Icelandic produce over charcoal; Fiskmarkaðurinn gives Icelandic fish an Asian accent; Messinn serves fish in the pan; and Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur has sold its hot dogs since 1937.

Our advice: see our article on Icelandic cuisine for the dishes to look for.
