Iceland has no railway: you arrive at Keflavík International Airport, about 45 minutes from the city by the Flybus, which has been Iceland’s official airport transfer since 1979 and matches its departures to every arrival. In town, Strætó runs the yellow city buses, included in the Reykjavík City Card with the Viðey ferry; Hopp rents electric scooters; and Hreyfill has run taxis since 1943. Cruise ships berth at Faxaflói Ports’ new Vör terminal.
From the airport
Flybus: about 45 minutes from Keflavík to the BSÍ terminal, with hotel drop-offs. Taxis wait at the airport too.
In the city
Strætó buses; Hopp scooters; Hreyfill taxis on 588 5522; the Reykjavík City Card for buses, museums and pools.
Book the Flybus with your flight number: if the flight is late, it waits.
By sea
The Viðey ferry; cruise ships at Vör; Smyril Line’s ferry from Denmark to Seyðisfjörður in the east.
Our advice: the centre is small: walk it, and keep the bus for Perlan, Laugardalur and the museums of Árbær.
